Gravel and tar weekend trip - 13 to 16 Des 2014

2014. It's been quiet a year. Kids left home, some key areas at the office having undergone some change, some turmoil in other areas. I wont expand, suffice to says its been a year to remember. What better way than to take ones mind of things doing a gravel and tar road trip. I planned a route, something simple and easy. I wanted to do some easy gravel roads in the Overberg area. Full of excitement and expectation we left. 4 days of traveling!!

First stop would be for a breakfast in Franschhoek. A table in the shade was preferred for having a coffee with croissants and scrambled egg.

Onwards we went, up the pass .

Did some lovely tar and gravel going to Greyton. Visited the local flee market.

Left after a cuppa, on towards Arniston. Traveling through some lovely landscapes.

Stopped for lunch at the Wimpy at Caledon

Booked in at the hotel in Arniston.

We went for some walkies around town

Next day we took the gravel road to Still bay via Malgas, Witsand and Vermaaklikheid

Crossing the Bree River at Malgas by pond

Stopped for lunch at Witsand

On the way to Vermaaklikheid, took a break at the low water bridge crossing the Duiwenhokriver.

We got to Still bay, had a nice super with beer at the local tavern. Then struggled to find a place to stay the night. Just before the sun went down, found this nice cottage.

Next day the route took us to Gouritsrivermouth, Herbertsdale, Vanwyks dorp and Koedoeskloof near Caltizdorp

Herbertsdale

On the way to Vanwyks dorp

Koedoeskloof we stayed over for the night

Last day was route 62 back home. Had a coffee break in Barrydale

Doing the tar road is rather boring. Decided to take the gravel road. Halfway between Robertson and Worcestor, turned left to take the gravel road to Villiersdorp. Another low waterbrigde was crossed.
